Summary
Green Technical Education and Employment (Green Tech) was created from Simeon Gant’s idea to train underprivileged and ethnically diverse youth in an evolving workforce. He came to @ Your Request needing help to develop a strategic plan and an organizational structure to propel the organization forward.
@ Your Request assisted Green Tech with their endeavors by helping them register the company as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. We also assisted Simeon in the creation of a strategic plan of action and an organizational structure that would help Green Tech in reaching its goals and objectives.
With the structure in place, Green Tech quickly attracted the right donors to fund its programs to train underprivileged and ethnically diverse youth
Who
Green Technical Education and Employment (Green Tech) was created from my idea to train underprivileged and ethnically diverse youth in an evolving workforce. The goal was to focus on teaching youth about jobs in clean energy, energy efficiency and sustainable living strategies. It essentially became our core vocational education program.
Issue
Green Tech needed to develop a strategic plan and an organizational structure to propel the organization forward. My focus was on growth and impact, but I knew that administrative organization was a pillar for success. This is when I was introduced to Annette, owner of @ Your Request. With her more than 25 years of administrative experience in the private sector, I decided she could assist me in moving forward with my idea of starting a nonprofit.
Solution
@Your Request assisted Green Tech by discussing the process it would take to become a nonprofit. Annette researched the nonprofit status for Green Tech, navigated the necessary forms and guidelines required to finally establish Green Tech as a legitimate 501 (c)(3) nonprofit registered with both the Federal and State Government.
Next, we discussed the goals and objectives of the organization and developed a strategic plan to meet them and move Green Tech forward successfully. @ Your Request also assists with managing the daily administrative needs of Green Tech’s organization, as well as taking the lead with their bookkeeping and accounting. Annette works with Green Tech’s CPA to ensure the organization is compliant with all federal and state tax requirements. She also assists us by attending board and other meetings and taking meeting notes. She records the minutes from the meetings, prepare thank-you letters to donors, create budgets for their various programs, and other administrative and strategic planning services as needed.
Results
Moving forward, Green Tech established early success, landing significant donations, including a contract with the Sacramento County School Board and other grants. Our books are always up to date and accurate. I have even learned about accounting methods because Annette encouraged me to participant with the financial process even when I was reluctant. I now know basic professional terminology, the importance of categorizing all expenses and income appropriately and how to read Profit and Loss as well as Balance Sheet reports. @ Your Request makes sure we stay abreast of each of our programs by developing budgets for each as well as a budget for the overall organization. Annette also found the ideal CPA for our flourishing nonprofit.
Over the years, Annette has adjusted to the changing tools of technology to keep Green Tech in a fiscally healthy status. Green Tech would not be the strong non-profit organization today providing vital career technical education and community service without her diligence, meticulous attention to detail, patience and flexibility for the past eight years. Thank you Annette and the @Your Request team.
